The AP 71/350 is an impressive combination of compact size, reasonable price and outstanding optical quality, which is suitable for astronomy and nature photography. At the heart of the optical set-up is the Petzval design comprising 4 elements in three groups, using FPL53 and FPL51 glass. The result is a colour-rich, corrected image field with a diameter of more than 45 millimetres - perfect for full-frame cameras! The fast focal ratio of f/4.9 allows short exposure times.
An M48 thread is provided for camera connections. Appropriate T2 adapters can be found under "recommended accessories". Focusing is helical - so by twisting the textured ring on the telescope body. This means that even heavy cameras do not present a problem.
The 21cm-long prism rail included offers three connection options: screw connection with a photo thread, using an Arca-Swiss plate, or attaching to a Vixen standard dovetail clamp. With these options, it should be no problem to connect this telescope to all the common photo tripods, photo mounts or astronomical mounts.
Not only is a protective nylon carrying case included, but also a specially-devised Bahtinov mask.. This mask helps with focusing and is built into the lens cap.

On its own, the tube weighs 2.8kg. The entire telescope, complete with the appropriate tube clamps, prism rail and the finder shoe/carrying handle, weighs 3.7kg.
The telescope's focal position - just like the smaller RedCat 51 - is designed for purely photographic use (astrograph).
