Most of the places where you are imaging or observing from has light pollution, often very strong. In order to reduce this problem and improve the visibility of faint objects (galaxies, nebulae and star clusters), UHC filters are used to block light pollution allowing to pass only the wavelengths emitted by weak objects.
Thanks to its high transmittance, the UHC filter reduces light pollution caused mainly by sodium vapor lamps and mercury, dramatically improving the visibility of many faint objects like galaxies, nebulae and star clusters. Looking at the transmittance curve of the UHC filter, you can see it lets pass the most important lines of natural emissions such as H-Beta (486nm), O-III (501nm) and H-Alpha (656nm).
Photographic use: the UHC filter let to pass more wavelengths corresponding to green (where is located the O-III line), most of those corresponding to red (where is located the H-alpha line). When used with DSLR or color CCD cameras images tend to assume a green coloration (but for these cameras we suggest the use of CLS-CCD that cancel also UV and IR radiation).
Visual use: with this filter, the sky background will appear darker and it will help you to observe more easily the weakest details of many faint objects. Its use is recommended with telescopes of at least 100mm in diameter.
All filters are carefully tested to verify the quality of the substrate and antireflection coating: in this the filters do not add problems to your pictures and that there are no annoying reflections (effects that may occur in economic models).
